Yeah I went with a 12/3 15 foot extension cord. Wanted to keep it as short as possible.Hopefully you never will.
Using light duty extension cord, and lightning and power surges are the main culprit. While using at least a 12/3 extension cord (if necessary at all), connecting to a 20 Amp GFCI protected circuit and, of possible, plugging your SF in to a separate circuit without other appliances, etc. will minimize the likelihood to ever need to replace one.
