I really appreciate his YouTube channel. He seems to answer the burning questions that I have in the back of my mind. Who would’ve thunk it? Traeger! I’ve heard nothing but bad things about those pellets but may give them a try.

Not every pellet is for everyone, but when people suggest one brand is so terrible and it’s obviously a result of internet troll biases, I have to attempt point out the truth. This guy was embarrassed by the truth. He cannot hide from the blind results and his cohost corrects some of his previous misstatements about the make up of the Traeger pellets. I give him credit for posting it as it is very humbling for him personally.

For what it’s worth I like the Weber pellets in my Smokefire which I believe are made by lumberjack. They are smaller in diameter to the Traeger and campchef brands and I’m happy with their performance. I won’t be changing, but not because the Traeger’s are bad. Rather because I’m happy with the ones I’m using.

Yup, I’ve used mostly Weber pellets so far but have since strayed to some different one. None, really stand out to this point. I’ve used BbqRs Delight and have a bag of GM Gold and Lumberjack 100% Hickory to try out yet. The BBQRs delight worked, but nothing stood out. It was the Master your Meat.

Side story, I stayed away from pellet smokers for a long time. My neighbor had one and it always smelled sickeningly artificial to me compared to my WSM. It was a Traeger and pellets to go along with it. My Smokefire does not smell artificial like that setup did and happy for that.

Yeah pellet cookers don’t smell quite the same as charcoal cookers, but the results speak for themselves. I love blind tests of all kinds for this reason. It makes it very difficult for preconceived notions to creep into the results. The Smokefire burns less efficiently than most pellet grills out there. Maybe more than any out there, not sure. The very thing people complain about (temperature fluctuations) are responsible for the enhanced flavor profile on the bbq. Ironic. It does eat more pellets than anything I’ve used and it produces more ash as a result. It’s a trade off. Also the pellets contain bark which also burn less efficiently and produce more ash. It’s a double whammy. That said, I’m a fan.
