Here's a way to improve searing. I removed the center flavorizer and the flame cover and mounted the direct flame diffuser from a Memphis elite pellet grill. Now there's high temp flames available for rapid searing
Do you own a Memphis? They are the Rolls Royce Of pellet grills. Only thing I don’t like about mine is there is no pellet dump. Not a deal breaker of course.

I don't always wanted one but hard to justify cost.

agreed. They are very pricey. The build quality is through the roof. They do offer some lower priced options now called Beale Street line. The Smokefire is quite a value given it’s flexibility in direct and indirect cooking.
