On Sunday, the updates applied with no issues, which was good, because I wanted to use it to cook some frozen pizzas. I did think it had trouble holding a 400ish temp. I did have the lid open every 10 minutes or so, but it seemed really slow to warm back up. Outside temp was coldish: it was in the 40s maybe?

My grill has worked perfectly since I bought it Sept 21. Don’t want an update. Do I need to get them or do they just get sent over the internet

Do we know if Weber watches, monitors, or otherwise participates in this forum? If not IMHO they are missing a huge chance to let us help them make SF better. I understand Weber has been very supportive in taking back and/or replacing units but we've all made a pretty hefty investment here and I for one chose SF to replace 3 other units (um, kinda getting pressure to de-clutter around the house). I really don't relish the thought of the disruption of a full replacement as some have experienced (but good on Weber for standing behind the product!).
I do hope Weber is listening and maybe even reaching out to some to ask their suggestions. SF is software controlled. Presuming they have engineered a solid hardware platform (and there is some discussion about that) then it follows that a lot of issues are software derived and here's where we could play a role if Weber is listening.

The picanha looks amazing. It is a great cut of meat.

My SF must not like this update. Tried it three times last week and kept failing when got to 100%. I think she’s mad at me since last few cooks I’ve done outside were on the Genesis or Ooni. :)

Mine seemed to go though initially last week then it booted it out. I just left my grill on and I believe they unistalled and reinstalled the stuff without my participation. I leave mine on a lot and it turned itself off twice last week. When I switched it back on it hesitated then the lights flashed both times. It is running right now but had a couple weird days when this was going on. Maybe just leave the unit switched on? 🤷‍♂️

Might give that a try after snow melts.

It was kinda weird having the unit shut off while unattended twice. The flashing series if lights down were you plug in the probes upon switching the power off and on again is a tell tale sign of new stuff booting up though. Good luck.

Right the probe lights flashing seems to be indIcator of update being applied.

Since my issues after the update, Weber sent a new controller. I have done 2 cooks. 1st was reverse searing some strips. Got to 225 as normal, no issues getting steaks up to 112-115. Grill seemed to have a hard time getting up to 600. It stalled out at 500 and started loosing temp. I let it do its thing and it got through it. Once up to 600, it maintained and finished the cook and shutdown without issue. 2nd cook was a small slab of spare ribs. I set temp to 225, it reached temp in normal time. I was letting it settle in and noticed the temp dropped to 155. I let it do it's thing and 5-10 minutes later it was back at 225. Smoked the ribs a couple hours and didn't have any issues. Not seeing a benefit from the latest firmware other than new notification. Wish they offered a list of specific changes when they did this.

Mine did this sorta thing until it updated itself over a couple days when i left it on. It shut itself off so a cycled it back on and started it up and shut down. Came back the next day and it had shut itself off again. This time I believe it was fixed with the updates they must have installed while it was idle. 🤷‍♂️

With all the seeming issues, I’m not sure I want to mess things up

What is actually a bit scarier to me is the inconsistencies of the updates. It's one thing when there is a small (SMALL) percentage of outliers that have issues. But this seems to be more like a coin flip. The double-update worked fine for me AND during a marathon of 22 hours of back-to-back-to-back cooks, I could swear that my pit's actual temp (via Weber ambient probe) was closer to the SF reported target temp than ever before. May be coincidence or may be because of the cleaning I did prior to the cooks. Either way, I'm happy that the coin toss ended up good for me; but definitely sorry for those that got the short end of the stick. Weber needs to seriously address some platform instabilities or the bad press is not going to go away anytime soon.

I'd be happy to not have to acknowledge 17 identical alerts when I open the app. 17 is only a slight exaggeration. Usually I only get two of the same notification, but my last cook I got a bunch of notifications that I was low on pellets, probably at least 10 of them - it was so many I turned the volume off so as to not annoy my family. And these alerts were during the shutdown (I had finished the cook).
