I have been using my smokefire for a little less than 1 year. When I went to fire up my smokefire for my last cook, I saw a message that the glow plug needed to be replaced. This is my 4th glow plug within a year's time. Is that normal? I use my smokefire about 2-3 times per week. It is an EX4 and I have installed all of the part updates from Weber

I tried that. The grill heated up to the specified temperature, but then the temperature dropped significantly part way into the cook. Luckily I was just cook a pizza so I transferred it the oven

The glow plug is only to get the initial fire ignited. Once the pellets are burning, it is not used anymore throughout the cook. Temp is regulated purely with pellet feed and airflow.

Yeah, as stated above, that has nothing to do with the glow plug. Roll on.

I have been thinking about getting a spare for a while and contacted Weber Australia over the weekend to ask about this since they are not available on their website.

I got a reply today advising that they are not selling them and will only send a replacement when the one in use fails.
They also advised that the replacements will be free of charge and they will do this for the life of the SmokeFire even though the part only has a 3 year warranty.

That is good news but I still would have liked to have a spare.

That is a bit of a strange response — Kind of good news/ bad news — and seems to suggest that they are in short supply.

On the other hand they do seem to be very reliable IF one has good connections to the holder, especially the black ground wire...my glow plug is still going strong after almost 11 months.

Temp drop had ZERO to do with the glo-plug ignitor. It does nothing after the grill fan stops “pulsing” on startup. It is on for a fixed amount of time and then off until it is restarted. Take it apart and clean under fire-pot grate and behind the drawer.
Verify proper assembly and re-try

I’ve had my smoke fire and in its inability to be running at any point which is often because of issues I have had to replace the glue plug on three different occasions. The cooker probably has 25 to 30 hours tops cooking on it. I ended up buying myself two extras as I didn’t want to wait on warrantee replacement from Weber. One of mine was from a fire, another one was just random and the third was from a runaway temperature issue where the pellet grill was set for 305° and it was cooking at 500 and we finally had to just unplug it. Mine was replaced with a summit charcoal grill and it’s been absolutely perfect ever cents. The pellet grill is my house still covered up debating on what to do with it.

I apologize but all I can say is good luck, I hope you do better. I wish there was a real chicks for these. Mine has all of the updates Weber has put out.

Unfortunately not something they do here.

I have reached out to Weber US to see if they can help out but I don't like the chances of them sending parts overseas.
Its a bit crappy that they hand them out like candy to everyone over there but I have to wait until I cant use the grill (unless I start it with a blowtorch) and raise a warranty claim then go through all that to get one sent out.

The last warranty claim I had was for the cover that leaked and it took almost a month to resolve so I'm not looking forward to it.

Wow I’m sorry about that. Their warranty and the way they take care of people over here is pretty good. However with this particular grill when people have issues they throw a lot of parts at it. Does DHL deliver to you?

That is wierd. When they sent me the pellet ramp I got one, when they sent me those glass cups I got one. When they sent me the welded auger they sent 3 with the whole glow plug assembly.
