A novice with my SF 4. Whats the consensus on the best pellets to use. Have been using Trager because Weber’s are harder to find in my area.

My EX6 came with a hopper half full of treager…I did a pork butt with them and did NOT like the flavor. 2 things it was my first pellet cook so I didn’t know what I was doing. And I bought my SF second hand that only had the burn in done. . I switched to pit boss had great success with a few different flavors, then eventually Weber competition blend. My favorite so far is Weber competition blend….so that’s my recommendation. Lowes usually has them on sale. If not Walmart almost always had pit boss.

Weber, Lumberjack or any other pellet that has the same diameter.
Anything else will probably work but you run the risk of problems.

Get out to your local Lowes I just picked up 7 bags at $10 each, last year I bought 20 at 1/2 off. Weber grillmaster blend is GREAT stuff!!

Weber Grillmaster for me. I’ve heard good things about Lumberjack but not much available near me.

Lowe's Union City, CA , will deliver for free. Not sure what minimum order is though.

Love the Weber grill master blend. Not a fan of the treager pellets.

After two years with my TWO EX6 units (one at home, one at the cabin) I continue to experience pellet starvation from time to time. I exclusively use Weber pellets. I'm doing a cook, then part of the way through the grill temperature goes down far below where I've set it at and won't recover for a long time- even with me stirring the pellets by hand in the hopper. Instead of cooking something in 15 minutes at 450, I end up having to cook it at 360 for longer and it doesn't turn out like it would at 450. AND, the timing of the meal is screwed up- the veggies and sides are done and waiting for the delayed meat on the grill. Has Weber ever owned up to this defect and provided a REAL solution? My wife keeps telling me to toss both units and buy something that works every time.

I was having flameout issues as well. I came to discover the chimney over the firepot was flaking off and periodically putting out the fire. I have since been diligent about vacuuming out the firepot before cooking and cleaning any loose metal off the chimney prior to cooking. I had reason to call Weber on a different thing and told them about the chimney issue, they sent me a new one and said it was covered by warranty.

Sounds like you may have a controller issue. If the temp is just randomly dropping or not holding.

This is not a flameout- the flame is still burning and the grill is producing heat, just not to the temperature I have set.
