After setting temp, the fan ramps up and then 1-2 sec later it alarms and displays E7 motor failure. The link it sent says to unplug, check wires to the motor and try again. I did. I didn't see anything obviously wrong like a bad wire or poor connection. I guess the auger may be jammed or the motor has a bad board???
Anyone else have this happen. Glad I still have my Genesis.

I thought maybe the auger was jammed. I emptied the pellets and pulled the auger. Nothing wrong there. Tried it again with no pellets and it gives the same alarm.

At this point, I think the fan and the body are about the only parts I haven't replace on this grill. I'm concerned what happens after the warranty is out.

Weber is sending a new motor.

I brought up my concern about needing so many parts replaced during the 2 years I've owned it. It is frustrating enough to have it continually fail, but in 6 months when the warranty is gone, it will be a hard pill to swallow when it fails again. I asked about an option for an extended warranty and was told that was not an option. The rep was going to pass along my concerns. I will follow up with the rep once I replace the motor to confirm it resolved the issue and ask again about my reliability concerns once the warranty is gone. This is my 7th warranty service in 27 months.

Man. Bad luck for sure. I feel very fortunate. Not a single issue since the software upgrades and the original auger assembly swap.

I also wonder if they wouldn’t honor extended issues but aren’t willing to commit up front. My experience is they are more than fair.

SillyRabbit has brought up an issue that concerns me as well. What happens once our warranties expire? I agree with JpsBBQ that Weber has done extremely well in standing behind SF; but what happens once units start dropping off warranty. I guess we'll find out. Do a search on replacement parts for SF and its pretty slim pickings; aside from the glow plug most are cross product line items.

That said, I can still buy most replaceable parts for my aging (and rather simple) Spirit E-330, either from Weber or third-party suppliers; will the same be said for SF?

Granted - I think we are all (is that correct ??) still under warranty and Weber has done well by us but SF is a pretty complicated system and I see a number of potential areas of maintenance down the road, not the least of which is the motor assembly SillyRabbit encountered, the fan and [God forbid] the circuit board.

Don't get me wrong - I love my EX4 G2. It has exceeded my expectations in terms of what it has allowed me to present to the dinner table in spite of myself. I just need this thing to go well beyond the warranty period and the availability of spare parts is a critical factor.

Natural to be concerned. I like JPsbbq have not done anything other than the auger swap and removed finger guard.
I have a lot of new internal parts that I’m saving at this point because of my warranty concern. That being said if I get 5 years out of it I’ll be good. I want them to blow my mind with the true next generation.

This is probably sacrilege, but I suggest buying a Traeger.

You will start to see replacement parts become available late this year or early next year.
Most of the parts have a 3 year warranty (not all parts as some have 5 years) which will expire around that time.

Not at all.
Some people just feel more comfortable using something that has been around longer and has a track record (regardless of what that may be).

I replaced the motor and problem resolved.

This is the reply from Weber about my warranty concerns. Doesn't really make me feel much better. I feel confident Weber will take care of issues. After replacing 2 motors and 2 controllers, I hope they will take that into account down the road if one fails outside warranty.

----------

"We can understand your concerns about the warranty on your SmokeFire grill. Please be assured we'd always be available to assist and troubleshoot any issues that arise, we want to make sure you are enjoying cooking on the SmokeFire as much as we do.

We don't want you to worry about the number of previously sent parts for your grill. We'd replace as many parts as needed within the warranty timeframe to get your grill up and running.

In addition, we seek out and act upon customer feedback. We've used your email as an example of concerns our SmokeFire customers have about their warranties."

I would be seriously checking my electrical situation. I'm no expert but it's highly suspicious that you've had these amounts of issues. maybe an electrician would have some sorta diagnostic tool that could check and monitor your electrical over a wide range of time. If you don't have an electrical issue, I'd buy a lottery ticket because the odds of two motors and two controllers being bad and sent to the same person is astronomical. Not saying it didn't happen, but it's unlikely. Hopefully this new part does the trick for years and years to come.

I'm in the same situation this evening, this will be my 4th time it has occurred, since I bought the machine over 2 years ago.

Switched it on, set the temp it tried to start and 5 seconds later this message came up. It's very disheartening, when you've prepped the food all day for guests, only to be let down by the machine.

Burn pot clear, augur not jammed, motor connections secured, definite problem with the controller or motor , I am pretty confident after this happening with 2 controllers and 1 motor previously

I guess that’s my point. I’d be checking my electrical at my source if I had 3-4 major failures of the key electrical components. Not saying that’s the issue for sure but I’d be very suspicious. If an electronic component fails multiple times I would suspect there is some possibility that there is an issue at the source. Might not be but would be great to eliminate that as the cause. It’s really bad luck to have these components fail repeatedly. Really bad luck. Hope they get you situated.

Had a new kitchen fitted January this year and I asked the qualified electrician who was doing part of the instillation and fitting a new RCD box, to check the outside switched socket and cable that was installed 2 years ago specifically for the Smokefire.

It passed all the tests and was working as it should, he was more than happy with it. I run all sorts of garden equipment and DIY tools off the same socket and not one of them has blown or shut off when in use.
